The Mothers' Union (MU)
The mission of the Mothers’ Union is to show our Christian faith by the transformation of communities worldwide, through the promotion of a stable marriage, family life and the protection of children.
The Tilehurst St Michael's Branch of the Mothers' Union meets twice each month, usually in the Morlais Room at the church.
- The Afternoon Group usually meets at 2:30pm on the third Tuesday of each month.
- The Evening Group usually meets at 8:00pm on the last Monday of each
month.
Members of the Mothers' Union are free to attend meetings of either or both groups, and visitors are welcome.
Both groups have an interesting and varied programme of talks, walks, discussions, visits, meditations, concerts etc. From time to time there are coffee mornings, a Summer Service, and a New Year party.
The Branch and its members support St Michael's and the wider church in a variety of ways, as well as a number of MU projects which have included:
- Supplying emergency toiletries for patients admitted at short notice to local hospitals;
- Support to Readifood, the local food bank;
- Gifts of cookies to university students during freshers’ week;
- Provision of holidays for local families in need;
- Raising awareness of domestic abuse through the campaign 'RISE UP' and liaison with Berkshire Women’s Aid.
The Branch also raises money for MU overseas projects.
