Outreach into the community and beyondOutreach

Our approach to outreach describes how we in St Michael's communicate our Christian faith - both to those who come through our doors and to those who may never have been inside a church.

Within St Michael's, matters of outreach are addressed by the Stewardship Committee of the Parochial Church Council (PCC), including the following aims and objectives:

  • Raising awareness of the needs of the world to the Church and Parish;
  • Acting as a link between churches and the local community;
  • Recommending wise allocations of mission giving;
  • Looking out into the community and beyond for ways to spread God's love.

Whilst it is helpful to have a committee to investigate, analyse, produce reports and make recommendations, we believe that putting outreach into practice is the responsibility of everyone.

Who we want to reach out to:

We seek to reach out to all in our parish — children and adults, newcomers and long-established residents, and people of every background and circumstance — offering a place of welcome and belonging.

Opportunities for Outreach:

  • Within Church  for those who already worship at St Michael's.
  • Partnering ecumenically to become aware of opportunities and share in those, both in Tilehurst and wider Reading.  We value links with Citizens UK.
  • In the Community  reaching out to all those exploring faith and those looking for a place of belonging.
